Tai’s And of the Brimming Freeze Frame will create a dream-time California through the many eyes of Annie Paradise, the protagonist of the unpublished memoirs of an actress who lost her linguistic capacity, then her hearing and finally her sight. Using film, live dance and musical performers, and a complex sound-world experienced by the audience through headphones, this is a fractured narrative told by three voices emanating from three different temporal spaces that coalesce into one synchronous chorus. Following this, inspired by the chance operations of John Cage, cut-up techniques of Gysin/Burroughs and Kurt Schwitters, and single shot/durational films (Andy Warhol, James Benning), Vicki Bennett’s The Zone runs two visionary journeys, Stalker and The Wizard of Oz, side-by-side, witnessing harmonies and synchronicities both in images and narrative that occur far more than either pure chance would dictate or the imagination construct.
Tai Shani is an artist living and working in London. Fantastical and cinematic, Shani’s performances and films contain multilayered and self-reflexive narratives that are collapsing departures from obscure historical dramatizations or abstracted adaptations of films, plays and books. Referencing early science fiction, Greek tragedy and theatrical spectacle, chaotic, a-historical and non-linear in form, Shani’s work explores fictional strategies, non-observed fictions, the cinematic memory, as well as conflicting temporal structures in the ‘real’ and the mediated. And of the Brimming Freeze Frame comprises a fractured narrative told by three voices emanating from three different temporal spaces that coalesce into one synchronous chorus and then discord and retract back into singularity. Referencing mythologies surrounding the Janus, Annie Paradise is the protagonist of the unpublished memoirs of an actress who lost her linguistic capacity, then her hearing and finally her sight. Of the Brimming Freeze Frame dismantles and lays flat an entire fiction into one non-hierarchical surface incorporating fragments from the screen adaptation, abstract animations, diorama’s and a live score by Kirsten Norrie/MacGillivray.

Harry Holland Exhibition

Harry Holland Exhibition

I was the star attraction at the Harry Holland life model exhibition at Martin Tinney Gallery, a retrospective of model portraiture covering thirty years or so. It was commented upon that my portrait was the most powerful.

There were portraits of other models from Cardiff Life Model Collective. In all we numbered four! Not a bad showing from my lovely model group 🙂
